Seared Tuna with Pickled Cucumber and Wasabi Cream

Seared Tuna with Pickled Cucumber and Wasabi CreamPresented in partnership with Fitter Families: A classically simple to make dish that your family will think came straight from a restaurant. A healthy starter with a little bit of a bite.

Serves 4
Preparation time: around 30 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 2 Tuna Steaks
  • Rocket Leaves
  • Watercress
  • ½ Cucumber
  • 1 teaspoon wasabi paste
  • 100 ml cream
  • 150 ml white vinegar
  • 150 gm White sugar

Directions:
Put the sugar and vinegar into a pot and bring to the boil.

Cut the cucumber in half, length-ways, scoop out seeds and use a peeler to cut the cucumber into ribbons.

Allow the sugar and vinegar to cool, and then add to the cucumber strips.

Mix the cream and wasabi paste in a bowl to a spooning consistency.

Cut the tuna into four equal portions.

Heat a pan to very hot and add some oil, season one side of the tuna and place into the pan, seasoned side down. Season the other side.

Sear for a minute on the first side, then turn, and after 30 seconds, turn off the heat.

Mix the rocket, watercress and cucumber with a drizzle of the pickle solution. Arrange in neat piles on plates. Keep some ribbons for garnish.

Place tuna on top, a ribbon for garnish, and drizzle with wasabi cream.

Serve & Enjoy!

This is great as a main course too served with some rice and drizzle the remaining sauce over the rice – loved it!
